The lens is quickly and gently placed on the cornea.  The surface tension of the tears will hold the lens in placed as soon as the lens touches the tear film.

Once the lens is on the eye have the patient look down and then release the lower lid followed by the upper lid.  If the patient is a new contact lens patient, have the patient continue to look down for a few minutes as they adapt.  The lens will be more comfortable with down gaze.
